Compact fluorescent lamps produce light using the same principle as fluorescent lamps. By bending the glass tube we can create very compact lamps. With the well known DULUX EL range, the control gear has already been integrated. This allows the energy saving lamp to be screwed into existing light bulb luminaires. The suer then saves 80% energy! OSRAM offers a wide range for all possible applications. For "normal" use at home, for profesional installations and for those applications, where more than just energy saving is required (e.g. dim without a dimmer). Our energy saving lamps are of course not only available in the "conventional" tube form, but also in the classic light bulb and candle form, as well as reflector lamps. The first choice for long-term lighting
Fluorescent lamps generate more than 70% of all the artificial light in the world but consume only 50% of the energy needed for lighting. They need only about one fifth of the electricity that an ordinary light bulb needs. Depending on the type and the way in which they work, their average life is between 5000 and 45,000 hours, whereas a light bulb lasts only for 1000 hours.

High-pressure discharge lamps are characterised by their impressive economy and their ability to produce extremely bright light from such small dimensions. For example, a metal halide lamp in a football stadium floodlight consumes "only" 1000 W but generates as much light as a 5000 W incandescent lamp, and the light itself is produced in an area no larger than a 5 Mark coin. High-pressure discharge lamps are used mainly in shop windows and shop interiors (e.g. POWERSTAR HCI ), factories and outdoor lighting systems (e.g. VIALOX NAV 4Y). The light is generated directly by an arc discharge. A continuous electrical discharge between the two electrodes causes the various filler materials in the discharge to luminesce. High-pressure discharge lamps also need special control gear to ignite and operate them.
