Company History
Osram is one of the traditional brand names in the world, synonymous with light around the globe and first saw the light of day one hundred years ago. On April 17, 1906 the brand name of Osram was entered in the Trademark Directory of the Imperial Patent Office in Berlin. In 1978, Siemens AG becomes the sole shareholder in Osram GmbH. Osram is one of the two largest lighting manufacturers in the world. This global company, with headquarters in Munich, employs more than 40,000 people throughout the world. World sales in the 2006 fiscal year totaled Euro 4.6 billion. Osram supplies customers in about 150 countries and manufactures at 49 sites in 18 countries.
OSRAM in Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, Osram made its debut in 2001, and thereby became the only international lighting option in the market. Initially, two types of lamps- clear light bulbs (GLS) and fluorescent tube lights (FTL) were introduced in the market, however, now a wide range of lights, including, Compact Fluorescent Lamps, Discharge Lamps, Tungsten Halogen Lamps, Special Lamps, Photo Optics and Illuminating Idea, are being offered to cater to the growing demand.
Osram, with its wide- spread lighting range offers solutions to all possible lighting needs of a modern society at a highly competitive price. Today Osram lights can be found everywhere, starting from the Floodlights of the National Stadium in Dhaka to the railway signals of the Bangladesh railways.
